Lake Cook Road Widening Project Starts Today

Originally reported on Journals & Topics, February 3, 2020

The Cook County Highway Department’s Lake Cook Road widening project in Buffalo Grove and Wheeling is about to get underway.

Starting Monday, Feb. 3, contractors are expected to begin delivering equipment and materials to prepare for a significant increase in road construction activity.

Weather-permitting, intermittent lane closures are expected to start at 7 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 5) in both directions on Lake Cook Road, and last until 4 p.m. to allow for water main installation in Buffalo Grove and Wheeling.

Multiple crews will be working along the project area and work will progress to different locations each day. Traffic impacts are expected to be significant and motorists are encouraged to find alternate routes.

As part of the project, Short Aptakisic Road, located between Route 83 to Buffalo Grove Road, will also be closed in the coming weeks.

Buffalo Grove is coordinating with Cook County relating to ongoing communications, in addition to targeted E-newsletters from the village.

Additional road construction projects are planned in the coming weeks and months throughout the village as part of the Infrastructure Modernization Program.
